COVID-19 Update

To the readers, learners, and dreamers of Reed Memorial Library,

I hope this letter finds you well. This experience has been difficult for everyone and each in our own way.  For the Library staff, it has been difficult not to serve each of you who enjoy or rely on what the Library provides.  We have adapted our offerings but we know it’s not the same.

Since the Governor has given clear guidelines on how businesses can reopen, we have outlined a phased approach for reopening the Library.  Our next phase of service will require that the building remain closed. However, next week we will begin offering curbside pickup with more details to share in the coming days.  For now, our book drop is open and we are accepting the return of those materials that have been sitting at home for the past few weeks.  I’m sure it will feel good to return those well-loved items.

Please bear in mind that library service will not be the same in the months to come.  Our staff will be wearing facial coverings, gloves, and maintaining six feet of social distance at all times.  This is for their and your safety.  We are also working hard to find creative ways to provide additional services when it is safe to reopen our doors.  

I wanted to extend a thank you to the Portage County Combined General Health District for their consultation on our plan for reopening and all the work they are doing to keep our communities safe.

While many things have changed, the one thing that has not is the commitment our staff has to serving you.  You will still get the same service with a smile.  It will certainly be different with face coverings, but if you look closely, you’ll see the smiles in our eyes.

To stay healthy, the CDC and other health agencies recommend:

  1. Washing your hands frequently. Wash your hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  3. Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  4. Stay home and away from others if you are sick.
  5. Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces frequently.
  6. Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
