Academic/Career Accomplishments

  Judge Laurie J. Pittman graduated from Ravenna High School in 1978.  She lettered three years in volleyball, basketball and softball and was selected to the All Metro Second Team Junior Year and All Metro First Team Senior Year.  She received the Womanhood Award (co-designee), Captain's Award, Coache's Award, MVP (all three sports), Female Athlete of the Year Award and Scholar Athlete of the Year her senior year.  Laurie continued to play volleyball for the University of Akron and graduated in 1982, receiving a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree.  In 1983, Laurie earned her Urban Studies degree, also from Akron.  She furthered her education and graduated in 1986, with a Juris Doctorate in Law from Ohio Northern University.

  Laurie became an associate with the Law Firm of Enlow and Stephens, where she practiced for eleven years.  She was elected to the Portage County Municipal Court in 1998 and in 2005, became the first female judge elected to the Portage County Common Pleas Court Bench.  Laurie is currently in her second term on the Common Pleas Court.

  Judge Laurie Pittman continues on a life-long path professionally and personally.  Her dedication, passion and commitment to her community are endless.  She has been very active with Ravenna Boys and Girls Club (past president), C.A.R.E.S. Group, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Ravenna Shop with a Cop, youth sports and several Veteran's organizations.  She is past President of the Ravenna Democratic Club, past Democrat Central Committee member, a member of the Portage County Bar Associaton (past president) and Ohio Bar Association.  She is Judicial Advisory Board at N.E.O.C.A.P. and chairperson of Courthouse Security.  Laurie has developed and received a Federal Grant for her Community Integration and Socialization Program for Felons.  She has also received the Citizen Recognition Award, C.A.R.E.S. Award, the Patriotic Employer Award and the Stanford "Who's Who Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs" Award.
